Why you eat like it's already gone

The Thursday problem, and the small rule that fixes it.

Kabir, one of our clients, put it best: he didn't have a discipline problem, he had a Thursday problem. Payday was Friday and he'd been eating like the money was already gone.

Scarcity brain

When money feels short, the brain stops planning past tonight. Food decisions get made for the next hour, not the next week. That's the same mechanism that makes people spend more, not less, the day before payday.

Scarcity doesn't make you careful. It makes you short-sighted, and short-sighted is expensive.

The rule

Move one small, fixed grocery run to the day before payday. Not after. It breaks the scarcity loop at its worst point, and it's the single change with the best return we've measured.
