A grocery budget for when the salary's gone by the 18th
The realistic version, built for the thin second half of the month.
Most grocery budgets are written for the 1st. Ours is written for the 18th, because that's when the ordering starts.
Two envelopes, not one
Split the month. The first half gets the fresh, perishable spend. The second half gets a fixed, boring, non-negotiable staples budget: dal, rice, eggs, onions, a few vegetables that keep. It's small and it's protected.
The second-half envelope is the one that stops the 11 PM order. Guard it like rent.
What it costs
For one person, a protected second-half envelope of ₹1,400 covers roughly fourteen home dinners. That's less than three delivery orders. We've yet to see a ledger where that maths doesn't hold.
